The goal of the Core77 Design Awards is to serve the community. honor our industry, and in the process, push the envelope of competition programming.

Shining a light on the designer's intent

We encourage entrants to tell their real story behind their design and we offer two ways to do that: through the questions on the entry form designed to tease out the true intent behind the project and how the design addressed it; and by accepting and encouraging video submissions which give entrants the opportunity to talk about their entry in a direct and personal way.

Enabling storytelling and transparency in the process

The Awards celebrates Core77's long and rich connection with the design profession and its practitioners. It honors our love of the daring, the well-made, the hard-won, our desire to expose the intention, materials and means behind a design, and the personalities of meritorious or curious not. Moreover, the program values storytelling in the same way that Core77, the magazine, has for 30 years, and in doing so, constructs an anthology of compelling creative practice of a time and place.

Opening up the field to students

Instead of creating a catch-all student category, we have a student field in each of the 20 design categories to allow students to enter any category. Students will pay a student rate and be judged along with other student work in their category of choice.
