The Merge bike was designed as PENSA’s answer to a bold question: what would the ultimate urban ride look like for New York City? Created for the Oregon Manifest Bike Design Project, Merge was built around the realities of city commuting—tight spaces, rough streets, changing weather, and the constant need to carry more without adding bulk. Our approach was to embed utility directly into the architecture of the bike, so every feature felt seamless rather than added on. Hidden throughout the frame are practical innovations that support everyday riding, from a retractable rear rack and integrated bungee system to built-in storage, lighting, and a retractable fender. A pedal-powered dynamo hub generates energy for lights and phone charging, helping the bike work harder for its rider. The result is a compact, nimble, and highly considered bicycle that feels elegant in form yet deeply functional in use—an urban commuter designed to surprise, delight, and move through the city with confidence.
