Just a few years ago, automakers pivoting towards producing EVs were seen as wise; Toyota was one of the major holdouts, adopting a more cautious pace, for which it faced criticism.
How times have changed. American political hostility towards EVs, the expiration of EV tax credits, accordingly low sales figures and most notably, China's sudden and utter dominance of EV production have rocked the auto industry. Now Honda, which was planning to roll out their very Giorgetto-Giugiaro-esque 0 Saloon this year, has announced they've axed it.

Honda's 0 series was actually meant to be a trio of EVs, with the Saloon being just one. The others were the 0 SUV and an Acura RSX EV. Those, too, have been axed.

Honda's release states that"starting production and sales of these three models in [the] current business environment where the demand for EVs is declining significantly would likely result in further losses over the long term."
Meanwhile Toyota, the former holdout, has announced three new EVs for this year: The bZ, bZ Woodland and C-HR. So which way the EV market is really going is anyone's guess.
